No one is immune to divorce whether they live in North Carolina or elsewhere. Even the rich and famous can face divorce, as evidenced by the pending divorce between comedian Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry.

It often appears that celebrities have fewer troubles than the rest of the world, but their fame and fortune can cause them even more troubles when they are facing divorce. It appears that Katy Perry and Russell Brand did not sign a prenuptial agreement after their lavish wedding in India. If that is the case, Brand may be in for a big pay day.

The celebrity couple was married 14 months ago. In that time, Perry earned an estimated $45 million. While some of her money was made through endorsement deals and a perfume line, the bulk of her earnings came from her concert tour.

While it is not known exactly what Brand made during the short-lived marriage, it is likely somewhere between $6 million and $8 million. No doubt much less than Perry.

Although the couple was married in India, they share a home worth millions in Los Angeles, and likely obtained a California marriage license. If that is the case, under California law, Brand is entitled to half of Perry's earnings or around $22.5 million.

Divorce is never easy whether you are a celebrity or not. Although couples may try to work through their differences, often divorce is the only solution.

Individuals in North Carolina who are facing divorce may wish to seek legal advice to be sure their rights are protected. With the right help, individuals can begin working on their new life.
